Welcome to Cyclone Family Weekend 2011!

These first few weeks of school have just flown by unbelievably fast. This Friday marks the start of Cyclone Family 2011, and there are a few things we want to be sure that you know before you arrive.

(Update: fixed link below for the tailgate map. – Adam, 9/27)

Where do we check in?

If you registered for a ticketed event (improv show, tailgate, or brunch) or ordered t-shirts, you will need to check in with us to pick up your tickets and/or shirt. If you didn’t register for a ticketed event, you might want to stop in just to pick up a printed schedule. If possible, we highly encourage you or your student to pick up stuff from our Kickoff, 2-5pm on Friday on the Memorial Union’s West Terrace (outside overlooking Lake LaVerne). We know some of you travel a long way and might not make it in time to check in at the Kickoff. That’s okay, because we’ll have a check-in table and help desk staffed the whole weekend.
Kickoff: On the MU West Terrace from 2-5pm Friday
Help Desk: In the MU in the hallway in front of the University Bookstore. Hours: Friday, 5-10pm; Saturday, 8am-10pm; Sunday, 8am-10:30am

Can we park on campus?

Yes, but read the signs carefully. If you are parking on campus before 5:30 on Friday, your best bet is the Memorial Union Parking Ramp. After 5:30pm and for the rest of the weekend, many of the faculty lots on campus open up for public parking, but again, check the signs carefully. Last thing you want is to find a yellow parking ticket envelope tucked under your wiper. Please visit parking.iastate.edu for more information. Visit the Tailgating page on the parking site for information about parking during the game.

Where can I find a map?

I’ve been a student here for three years and there are times that I still have to pull out a map. Here are some maps to help you find your destinations this weekend. Additionally, if you have smartphone, Google Maps has almost all of the buildings identified if you zoom in closely on the campus.
Campus Map
Tailgate Map – Note: The Family Weekend tailgate is Tent 29, the College of Engineering Tailgate is Tent 28. Please be sure you go to the appropriate tailgate (if you have tickets, come to Tent 29).

Is there a list of all the events happening?

Yes! We’ve worked with some other organizations on campus and make sure that there are tons of events going all across campus the entire weekend. We complied these events into a master schedule on our website, so please check it out before you come.

Is it going to rain?

Nope! As of 5pm on Sunday, the weather this weekend looks like it should be perfect. Friday and Saturday show highs around 70 and lows in the lower 40′s (so dress warmly if you’re going to the football game). Wunderground shows a 0% chance of precipitation this weekend, but rain or shine, the ONLY event that has a rain location is the Kickoff on Friday afternoon, which would move from the Terrace to the Sun Room. Everything else will go on at the scheduled location regardless of the weather.

I’m on campus and have a question. How can I get an answer?

Call us! This year we are experimenting with having a phone number you can call with questions throughout the weekend. The people at our help desk will be taking these calls. The number will start working at noon on Friday and will be active throughout the weekend. Before noon on Friday, don’t call, instead please e-mail cfw@iastate.edu with questions. Phone: (515) 428-0239

Can I order more tickets or another shirt?

No. We needed the final count about 10 days ago to make sure that our vendors had everything ready in time for the weekend. The only exception is that we will have a limited number of tickets available for the 9:00pm showing of Mission IMPROVable. Those tickets will go on sale for $6 outside the Great Hall at 8:30pm.

That’s all the major questions I could think of. We really look forward to seeing you this weekend and hope your family has an awesome time on campus. If you have any questions this week, please e-mail cfw@iastate.edu. GO CYCLONES!

Thanks,
