Meet the Committee
The 2013 Cyclone Family Weekend Planning Committee
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Business Manager
Jennifer (Junior, Accounting and Finance) ~ Brighton, IA
I joined Cyclone Family Weekend in 2012 because I wanted to meet new people while contributing back to Iowa State. The university has given me lots of valuable experiences and I wanted to return the favor. Last year it was very rewarding to hear complements from the families on how wonderful the weekend was for them. For that reason, I returned this year as the Treasurer. This opportunity really gave me a leadership skills and ability to network with all types of people in the Ames community. In addition, I love being able to work with a new committee this year.
My favorite ISU tradition would have to be Veishea. There are lots of great events to take part in but my ultimate favorite event that week is the concerts. I have attended the concerts every year since I have been attending Iowa State. Nothing beats the feeling of standing outside with your fellow classmates watching and singing along to every song. I’m looking forward to another great line-up this year.
President of Communications and Promotions
Stacey (Senior, Spanish and Family Services) ~ Boone, IA
I joined Cyclone Family Weekend in 2011 by suggestion of a good friend and have loved being a part of this organization. Being from the area, I cherish the opportunity to show families from all over what we are all about here and show off our Cyclone Nation spirit.
My favorite Cyclone tradition is probably homecoming. Not everyone is a huge sports enthusiast, including me, but that week there is so much red and gold all around it is hard not to catch that fever. Come game time, you can bet I am out there cheering just as loud as the every-game regulars.
President of Events and Catering
Brooke (Senior, Event Management) ~ Cedar Rapids, IA
I joined Cyclone Family Weekend in 2012 because I was looking to get involve in a campus organization. I wanted to develop valuable skills that could help me in the future and be a part of something. Cyclone Family Weekend seemed like the perfect opportunity to not only accomplish these goals but to also get involved with Iowa state and help others have a great experience here at Iowa State.
My favorite thing about being a Cyclone is experiencing Homecoming! The campus is absolutely beautiful in the fall with all the leaves changing colors. There are so many activities that go on both on campus and in the Greek community. Everything from lawn displays and skits to Yell like Hell competitions. My favorite part of Homecoming, however, is showing school pride tailgating and attending the football game. GO CYCLONES!
Adviser
Kipp (Alumni, Family Services) ~ La Porte City, IA
Part of my role in the Dean of Students Office is advising Cyclone Family Weekend. I love the opportunity to help student leaders plan a great event for the Cyclone Family.
I have MANY fond memories and “favorites” about ISU, but I would say football game day is right up there. The sounds, smells, football action, and overall excitement is awesome!
Student Alumni Adviser
Joe (Alumni, Elementary Education) ~ Ames, IA
I have been involved with Cyclone Family Weekend for 4 years now. This is the best organization to help families and students get to know Iowa State University and really feel like it’s home. I am very excited to be able to help out again this year. My favorite ISU tradition is going to all of the athletic events and being in the atmosphere and feeling it. It’s like nothing I have felt before. That atmosphere fuels my love for being a Cyclone.
PLANNING COMMITTEE
Natasha (Sophomore, Event Management) ~ Marshalltown, IA
I joined Cyclone Family Weekend at the beginning of 2013 because I wanted to get more experience planning events while still being involved on campus.
I love everything about the Iowa State campus. If I had to choose one thing that was my favorite it would be the athletic events. It’s great seeing the Cyclone Nation come together to participate and cheer for something that we all love.
Brittany (Junior, Event Management) ~ Pocahontas, IA
I joined Cyclone Family Weekend because I wanted to become more involved with a campus organization. I really wanted to incorporate what I was currently learning as an event management major into planning an events on campus within the university.
I have created many memories and enjoy a lot of different activities that Iowa State has to offer. My two favorite are homecoming and Veishea. Iowa State’s campus is beautiful during the fall and homecoming brings alumni back to meet up with college friends and remember their college day memories. Iowa State is well known for one of the biggest student run celebrations. Veishea is held every spring and brings a week full of activities and entertainment for students to enjoy.
Laura
Erin (Sophomore, Child, Adult, and Family Services, and Communications) ~ Ankeny, IA
I wanted to be a part of Cyclone Family Weekend because I love Iowa State University and I wanted to share my love for the university with others. I also wanted to gain experience with planning events and being involved with campus activities. I am very excited to see where Cyclone Family Weekend takes me!
My favorite ISU experience so far was attending the bowl game in Memphis, Tennessee. It was truly incredible to see the dedication of the fans who made the long trip down. Even though the game didn’t go as we would have liked, those few days were some of the best of my life. There really is no greater thing than being a part of CyclONE Nation!
Kendall (Freshman, Chemical Engineering) ~ Burlington, KS
I joined Cyclone Family Weekend because my family and I had such a great time during Family Weekend in 2012. I am really excited to give back and make Cyclone Family Weekend 2013 a great experience for everyone involved.
There are many things that I love about Iowa State, including how beautiful the campus is. However, nothing beats a game day in Cyclone Nation. I love going to many of the athletic events here, especially football, basketball, and volleyball. The excitement and the atmosphere is unbelievable!
Jasmine (Junior, Genetics) ~ Reese, MI
I wanted to be a part of Cyclone Family Weekend so I could be more involved with campus events. I also hope to develop important planning and personal skills that would benefit me as a student and as a potential future employee.
My favorite part about Iowa State is that you aren’t just a number. Professors genuinely care about how you do, there are endless ways to be involved on campus, and it is one of the best environments to grow as a person.
Tristan (Sophomore, Event Management) ~ Ankeny, IA
I joined the Cyclone Family Weekend Committee this spring semester because I wanted to get experience in event management, and also get involved on campus. I think it is a great opportunity for anyone to get involved.
I’ve been going to athletic events since I was in my mothers womb, and growing up I was in the Lil’ Clone Club. So, I think that would be my favorite memory, and also my favorite tradition here at ISU! I’m happy to share this with everyone, and be able to be the first out of four kids in my family to carry on the Cyclone Tradition!
Heather (Junior, Architecture) ~ Boone, IA
I joined Cyclone Family Weekend because it sounded like a good campus activity to get involved with. Its a great club to be in to get to know some people who love Iowa State just like I do! I’m looking forward to the activities ahead and providing a fun experience for future Iowa Staters!
My favorite part about Iowa State is the BEAUTIFUL campus! No matter what time of year, the campus always looks great. People are always friendly wherever you go and there is excitement at every activity or game you attend!
