Ever wonder what makes the Iowa State campus work? Join us for a presentation to learn about the history of our steam tunnels and power plant that allow Iowa State to operate. The presentation will include a virtual tour of the steam tunnels and time to ask questions to the Director of Engineering for Utilities, Facilities Planning & Management. Ticket required.

ISU Creamery Tours - Creamery in the Food Sciences Building - Ticketed Event (SOLD OUT)

The Iowa State University Creamery is among the few university dairy food science programs in the country that produces and sells dairy food products. Our experiential learning fully prepares dairy food science students for the most skilled positions in the fast-paced and competitive dairy processing industry. Join us for a tour of the facility and see the process involved in making the delicious cheese and ice cream offered at the Creamery! Visit the retail store for the opportunity to purchase ice cream and cheese. Ticket required.

 

ISU Horse Barns Tours - Horse Barns - Ticketed Event (SOLD OUT)

The Department of Animal Science at ISU proudly maintains the historic horse barns located on campus. The horse barns provide students with the opportunity to learn and work in a hands-on setting. The historic barns house two student apartments, an office, reproduction lab, equine treadmill, and classroom. Ticket required.

 

Glassblowing Demonstration - Student Innovation Center​ - Ticketed Event (SOLD OUT)

Enjoy a demonstration of fire and glass! The Gaffer's Guild at ISU is a unique organization where membership is open to all students and members of the community. Glass blowers will demonstrate the process of creating blown glass and discuss the history of glass blowing and the studio. Members will also share how they came to glass blowing as a hobby or passion.Ticket required.

 

Art on Campus Tours - Meet at the North Entrance of the Memorial Union by the Fountain - Ticketed Event (SOLD OUT)

Join the Art Museum staff on a walking tour of selected works in the ISU Public Art Collection. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the program and the artists and collaborators who created the site-specific works. The tour will begin at the Memorial Union, weather permitting. Ticket required.

 

Family Weekend Tailgate - Commuter Parking Lots A2, A3, and A4 - Ticketed Event

Saturday, October 15th, 11:00 am-3:00 pm

The Iowa State Football team will be travelling to Texas for the 10/15 football game, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get together and let them hear our spirit from Ames! We will be opening lots A2, A3 and A4 for families to tailgate and get in the Cyclone spirit. Be on the lookout for an appearance from Cy. Shop at the Bookstore's mobile store. Ticket required.

*The ISU vs. Texas game is away and we will not know the time of the game until closer to the event. The Family Weekend team will provide locations for families to be able to view the game at local businesses in Ames. 

 

Lunch by Hickory Park - Alumni Center - Ticketed Event $

You can’t visit Ames with out enjoying the great BBQ that Hickory Park has to offer. Whether you are out and about enjoying campus and the Ames community or attending the ISU Tailgate stop by the Alumni Center to experience this Ames tradition!  The cost per person is $17 for ages 9 and up, $12.50 for ages 3-8, 2 and under are free. Ticket required. Menu includes gluten-free and vegetarian options.

The menu will include Hickory Park's Sandwich Sampler -- choice of smoked, sliced Pork, Turkey, Ham, and Saucy Southerner -- with mashed potatoes and gravy, three-bean salad, and BBQ beans. Vegetarian option will be a black bean burger.

Rock Climbing Wall - State Gym

Saturday, October 15th, 12:00-4:00 pm

Try your hand...s and feet at our two rock climbing walls (top rope wall and bouldering wall) located in State Gym. Climbing walls will be reserved for Cyclone Family Weekend participants from 12:00-4:00 pm and will be first come, first served. Climbing equipment will be provided at no cost. Participants will sign a waiver prior to this activity.

 

Cybowl and Billiards - Ground Floor of the Memorial Union

Saturday, October 15th, 1:00-4:00 pm

Looking to show off those bowling skills? Head on down to CyBowl and Billiards and play a couple of games. Cybowl and Billiards will be available from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm and you can stop by anytime to play a game as long as there are lanes or billiards tables open. 

 

Cyclone Cinema Viewing of Minions: The Rise of Gru - Room 101 in Carver Hall

Unwind with your family after a day of exploring campus and the community. We are happy to bring you Minions: The Rise of Gru which tells the untold story of one twelve-year-old's dream to become the world's greatest supervillain. Concessions will be available for purchase.
